Astronomy Software

'Nebulosity'  (Windows and OS X) is designed to be a powerful, but simple to use capture and processing application for a wide range of astronomy CCD cameras. Many cameras are supported for capture and images from just about anything can be processed including png, tiff, jpeg and many other file formats.

Download it for free.

RegiStax, free image processing software allows you to stack a series of images of an astronomical object and process them to produce truely stunning finished work. The best bit is, it's free! Check out the following Youtube videos:

IRIS Astronomical images processing software
Version 5.52b. Iris provides many powerful functions of image processing for digital astronomical images. It is particularly good when used with images captured by CCD or DSLR cameras.
Satscape is a free/donation-ware Satellite tracking program that uses mathematical equations to accurately predict the position of any satellite in orbit around the earth, or predict to the nearest second when a satellite will pass over your location. You don't need a huge tracking radar in your back garden, just this program and a computer.
Stellarium is a free open source planetarium for your computer. It shows a realistic sky in 3D, just like what you see with the naked eye, binoculars or a telescope.
It is being used in planetarium projectors. Just set your coordinates and go.
Starry Night desktop planetarium software includes 50 guided tours to get you started exploring the universe. New Spaceship Mode lets you travel beyond the Milky Way to the outer reaches of space. Includes a SkyTheater DVD and Starry Night Companion.

STAR Atlas:PRO is a spectacular Planetarium and Star Atlas packed with features for astronomers and stargazers of all levels. Find the location of countless celestial objects in no time at all, display and print detailed star charts, point 'n click to control your telescope, plan observations and dozens more features.
AstroGrav is an astronomy software program that allows you to simulate how astronomical objects move and interact under the force of gravity. It features superb interactive 3D graphics which allow you to move around within a many-body astronomical system, while watching how it evolves with the passage of time.

Google Sky Browse around and zoom in to distant galaxies and nebulae View constellations and the movements of the planets. Hear astronomy podcasts and read celestial research from expert sources
Virtual Moon Atlas (V. M. A.)
Now downloaded by more than 300 000 astronomers worldwide and used in several books, magazines, observatories and Web sites and recommanded by the European Space Agency (ESA).
AstroStack is a program that takes a series of images or a stream of video and combines them into one sharp noisefree picture. AstroStack is built on a flexible professional architecture with plugins and works with all major operating systems
AstroWork Bench.

Quickly find exactly what solar system and deep sky objects are observable for any date, time and location. It also contains many other utilities and lots of reference data. All of this is combined into a free integrated observational astronomy tool.
