Goodbye John Hazelwood

Postby meteorgw » Wed Apr 06, 2016 6:28 pm

Last Wednesday I attended the funeral of John Hazelwood at Grantham Crematorium. John had been diagnosed with cancer about 2 years ago (he was 69). Members will remember John for his talks on the British space programme and his conspiracy theories about its demise when apparently on a successful course. During the eulogy it was said that John was a "one-off" and with his wacky sense of humour I have to agree. The service was well attended and included Paul Money, Mike Foulkes, BAA Saturn Section Director and Alistair Scott, past President of the British Interplanetary Society. John's choice of music was Venus from Holst's "The Planets", "Another Brick in the Wall", Pink Floy, "The Lark Ascending" by Ralph Vaughan Williams and Elton John's "Rocket Man". The choice of coffin must have been John's as well; cardboard with rope handles, which reflects his love of nature and the environment. There was a collection in support of Marie Curie Cancer Care and St Barnabas Hospice. Goodbye John.
